Church Organ

Letchworth Garden City Central Methodist Church Organ

We are very proud of our organ at Letchworth Garden City Central Methodist Church.

The organ was manufactured by Rutt in the late 1920s and presented to the trustees of the Primitive Methodist Church, Letchworth by Mr. and Mrs. John Ray. It was opened by Miss Ivy Ray during the Ministry of the Rev. S. Stanley Coulson and dedicated by the Rev. Joseph T. Barkby on May 22nd 1929. The organ with additional stops was transferred to the Central Methodist Church in 1938. The choir organ was added in 1946 as a thank offering for the safe return of their son Eric Ray from the 1939-45 war.

For more than 30 years we have been honoured to enjoy a yearly sellout appearance by Nigel Ogden the well known radio personality and organist in support of the Wesley Guild.

There are various people in the church that perform at the services we hold but our resident organist Dave White can be visited by clicking the link. Dave has been with us since Feb 2000 and he appreciates music of all types, particularly Jazz and Classical. He is a performing artist at Organ and Keyboard clubs up and down the country and has made appearances at numerous festivals and promotions.

The organ is regularly maintained and tuned at least twice a year. We get a lot of good feedback from people who have enjoyed the fine sound of this king of instruments.
